Theresa May says G7 summit was 'difficult' occasion

President Trump's rationale for lashing out at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau does not add up. He really kind of stabbed us in the back.

In scenes, remarks, and tweets that are unprecedented in the diplomatic world, Trump brought the US-led alliance of advanced economies close to a rupture, refusing to sign a joint communique with the group and calling Trudeau a "dishonest liar" - all over the contentious issue of trade tariffs on which he feels the United States has been unfairly treated.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were all jokes and smiles for the media as they met at the Group of Seven leaders summit in Quebec on Friday, but neither budged on the serious trade dispute between them.

But Kudlow said he doesn't know whether there will be a deal and that Trump had no alternative but to respond the way he did to Trudeau's "very unfortunate" statements. Trump said that he withdrew the USA from the G-7's joint statement because of that slight.

Trump administration officials on Sunday accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of stabbing President Trump in the back, blaming him for the president's refusal to endorse a joint statement with other world leaders.

"Just when we thought it couldn't get worse", Nicholas Burns, US ambassador to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in the George W. Bush administration, said on Twitter after Kudlow's appearance on CNN. "This development is not good as unpredictability has increased", Sipila said.

In a volley of tweets the United States president, who is in Singapore to meet the North Korean leader, said: "Fair trade is now to be called fool trade if it is not reciprocal".

"Kim must not see American weakness", Kudlow said.

Soon after Trump left the G7 summit he tweeted that he had instructed the House of Representatives not to endorse the final communique of the G7 summit due to Trudeau's "false statements at his news conference", as the Canadian prime minister dismissed USA metal tariffs as "insulting" and announced retaliatory measures.

Mr Trump's strained relationship with the rest of the G7 was in evidence on Saturday when he arrived late for the opening session, with Mr Trudeau addressing a gathering that included an empty chair where the president was meant to be.

"That's what bad-faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference". Trudeau's office, in turn, said what the Canadian leader said on Saturday was nothing new.

The White House is quietly trying to fix the American government's fractured relationship with Canada as President Donald Trump is in Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Politico reported Monday.

The G7 also includes Britain, Italy, France, Germany and Japan. "It's a betrayal. He's double-crossing", he said Sunday.

Trump continued tweeting Sunday evening about Trudeau, accusing Canada of making $100 billion in trade with the U.S. "Well, the in-factual, the non-factual part of this was they have enormous tariffs", Kudlow said.

In response to Mr Trump's decision to withhold U.S. support for the summit conclusions, a senior United Kingdom government source said: "We stand by the commitments made in the G7 communique".

"So I think Prime Minister Trudeau hit the right note".

Greg Valliere, the chief global strategist at Horizon Investments, wrote Monday that the back-and-forth would most likely only cement the resolve of both Trump and Trudeau.
