BlackBerry KEY2 With Snapdragon 660 Launched: First Impressions

The new smartphone is priced at US$ 649 (Rs 43700 approx.) for the base model and goes on sale globally in markets like the U.S. later this month. There is an increase in keyboard height by 20%, and the keys boast of a matte finish with optimal spacing.

It's the first BlackBerry smartphone to feature dual rear cameras, and also includes a customisable shortcut button called the Speed Key.

The BlackBerry Key2 will go on sale globally in June itself starting at $649 in the USA, £579 in the United Kingdom, €649 in Europe, and $829 in Canada. Protecting the display will be a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The smartphone comes loaded with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC made up of four 2.2GHz and four 1.8GHz Kryo 260 CPU cores.

The dual cameras with an aperture of F/1.8 and one with a F/2.6 provide "Portrait Mode" and faster auto-focus.

The rear camera set-up consists of two 12MP lenses, coupled with a 8MP front-facing camera.

Being a successor to the KEYOne, the BlackBerry KEY2 does look similar to its predecessor.

The Key2 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and has 64GB to 128 GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM.

Privacy controls were touted among the top features of TCL Communications' BlackBerry KEY2 unveiled today in NY, reflecting a growing demand by consumers and regulators for the protection of personal data. Now, if the original KEYone from past year moved you with its one-of-its-kind nostalgic physical QWERTY and BlackBerry's push for a safe and secure software ecosystem, the KEY2 will quite literally blow your minds with everything that it's bringing to the table.

The cameras are also capable of recording videos in 4K resolution at 30fps.

The BlackBerry KEY2 comes with a 4.5-inch 1,620 x 1,080 LCD display.

The highlight of the latest BlackBerry KEY2 remains the built-in security feature. The keyboard has not just been included as a means to remind you of who the company is, or to cater to those still living in the early 2000s, but also as an alternative way to engage with the Android interface.

Lastly, the BlackBerry KEY2 packs in a 3500 mAh battery that fuels the entire package. The new Speed Key lets you launch any app while you are in another app by using the combination of this key and the key that you assigned to any app. The storage can be expanded up to 2TB with a microSD card.

An exact release date has not been pencilled in yet but it will begin shipping this month.

TCL says the device can run for up to two days on a single charge, and a Smart Battery Experience feature allows users to track charging habits and receive recommendations on the best times to charge during the day. A 3500mAh battery powers the device from within along with Quick Charge 3.0.
