All users to be moved to new Gmail

Recently, the team came up with an Early Adopter Program (EAP) for the new version of Gmail, chipping in new options like Gmail offline and nudging. Note that as of July 2017, there have already been a recorded 1.2 billion monthly active Gmail users, which means it could be impractical to have a very specific timeline for releasing the updates.

The schedule that Google lays out for the new Gmail migration for G Suite users starts in July, although the company does not give a specific date. Those who get it can opt-in to use it if they want or they can't if their G Suite account administrator hasn't enabled it.

It will then switch over all G Suite users to the new design by September this year but will offer the opt-out option for another month.

Google's Gmail update was focused on AI-powered productivity improvements, such as suggested replies, as well as collaboration, and security. During this time and through August, users will still have the ability to opt out of the update. But, after eight weeks, users will automatically be migrated to the new Gmail. In the meantime, Gmail urges users to begin testing the new Gmail. Google said, "Approximately 12 weeks after the GA announcement in July, any users who've opted out of the new Gmail will be automatically migrated to the new experience, with no option to opt out".

Google has set July as the for general availability (GA) of the overhauled email service. It's also the only edition of Gmail that now allows you to try out Smart Compose, which tries to complete your sentences for you.

Here is everything that's new in Gmail - plus when and how you can try it.

Google announced a major update to Gmail back in April for the first time in a long while, with the goal of letting users do more with their email without actually exiting the main inbox screen. This will open the Google Admin console.
