Trump's Personal Atty. To Take The 5th In Stormy Daniels Case

In a new court filing regarding the Michael Cohen case, federal prosecutors withdrew their objection to an appointed special master reviewing seized documents, citing statements made by President Donald Trump earlier on Thursday. "You know I'm very busy".

"I get along with Kanye", the president said on "Fox & Friends", a day after West professed his "love" for Trump on Twitter. "I have nothing to do with his business, I can tell you".

While describing Cohen's allegedly limited work for him - a "tiny fraction" of his legal work, Trump assured - Trump confirmed to "Fox and Friends" that Cohen "represented" him in the Daniels case.

The trouble for Mr Cohen, and the president, is that lawyers for both men are arguing that documents seized by federal investigators in a recent raid on Mr Cohen's office and home are covered under attorney-client privilege.

By pleading the Fifth, Cohen can avoid being deposed and being forced to reveal information about hush-money payments paid to Stormy Daniels and to Karen McDougal-another women President Trump is alleged to have had an affair with.

In the Daniels case in Los Angeles, Cohen is asking to delay proceedings for 90 days, arguing that any statements he might make could affect the criminal investigation into his business dealings in NY.

Former Justice Department official Harry Litman also said it could adversely affect Trump - though not necessarily.

Grassley tries to finesse Mueller defense bill through Senate
Well, if Trump does fire Mueller or Rosenstein, the country will rightly blame McConnell and the GOP-controlled Senate. Chairman Grassley said if the authors of the various proposals put forward a consensus bill, he'd bring it up.

In a letter to Judge Kimba Wood filed to the court on Thursday morning, prosecutors suggested Trump may have damaged his own argument with his comments to the cable network. "But This doesn't have to do with me", Trump said.

It's a telling window into the president's state of mind more than a year into his term - he views himself as embattled, beset upon by "deep state" enemies and Democrats bitter about his 2016 victory. Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is also suing Cohen, alleging defamation. "The FBI loves me but the top people in the FBI, headed by Comey were crooked", Trump said. Then, asked what he got her, he pauses and says, "Maybe I didn't get her so much". "He's really a businessman, fairly big business as I understand it".

But Trump quickly turned to slamming his own Justice Department's leadership, complaining that 13 of Mueller's investigators are Democrats, and that Andrew McCabe, the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation who was recently fired just shy of his retirement, accepted $700,000 from a Clinton ally for his wife's unsuccessful 2016 Virginia state Senate campaign.

At one point, as Trump was mid diatribe about "fake news" CNN, Kilmeade interjected, "yeah, but don't worry about them".

Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, seized on Trump's comments shortly after the interview concluded. "I've been told I'm not involved", he said.

"The attack on the DOJ is part and parcel of a case about obstruction of justice, part of the pastiche of things that he has said that indicates that he wants to obstruct this investigation", Gertner said.
