Lawsuit: Three Michigan State basketball players raped woman in 2015

The Michigan attorney general, NCAA and state and federal lawmakers are investigating the college in the fallout from the Nassar scandal.

Monday's lawsuit says the female student was 18 on April 12, 2015, when she met the players at an East Lansing bar.

The woman reported the incident to the MSU counseling center eight days later, where she claims she was told "her options were to either file a police report or deal with the aftermath of the rape (s) on her own", according to the lawsuit. She began to think that maybe she had been drugged.

MSU spokesperson Emily Guerrant declined to comment on the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, the woman was at Harper's Bar in East Lansing on the evening of April 11, 2015, when most of the MSU men's basketball team arrived at the bar.

The suit alleges JD1 bought her a drink, introduced her to other MSU basketball players at the bar and that she was ultimately invited to a party.

"Everyone I was in classes with or working with was just all into sports, like 'bleed green, '" she told "Outside the Lines", according to ESPN.

ICE: Trump's Immigration Policy Means We'll Jail More Pregnant Women
Immigrants' rights advocates have said it is risky to women and their unborn children to hold them in custody. Philip Miller, ICE's deputy executive director, told CNN that 506 women have been detained since December.

"Upon arrival, there was no party as few people were present", the suit said. The woman recalls feeling confused and upset, and tried to send a text message "but she could not control her thumbs to formulate a text", according to the lawsuit. But another player, who lived in the apartment, later asked her if she wanted to see some of his basketball memorabilia. She said she was taken into another room, forced down on a bed, and raped by three basketball players. The woman was crying and could not speak, her lawsuit claims, and she did not consent to the activity.

The female student, who was not named in the lawsuit, accused the university of creating "an environment where football and basketball players can sexually assault females without repercussion". Furthermore, court papers reveal how the plaintiff "does not remember anything else until she woke up on the couch a few hours later". He told her that her roommate was already heading to the party, according to the lawsuit.

All three men raped the woman, the lawsuit contends.

A report released Thursday by the Michigan House of Representatives said the university fostered a culture that focused more on protecting the school than Nassar's survivors. She alleges the tenor of the counselor's inquiries changed after she reported the rape and completed an initial intake and assessment.

One of the players asked the woman to come to their apartment for a party. The suit says the MSU Counseling Center staffers "made it clear to Plaintiff that if she chose to notify the police, she faced an uphill battle that would create anxiety and unwanted media attention and publicity as had happened with many other female students who were sexually assaulted by well-known athletes".

She was told that the three basketball players she referred to were well known athletes and if she pursued a lawsuit against them that she would be swimming with very big fish.

The lawsuit is seeking a jury trial and also claims the university failed to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged incident.

Ultimately, the victim alleges that she became "traumatized" by the attack and was later hospitalized at the Sparrow Hospital outpatient psychiatric day program for intensive psychiatric treatment. She also lost months of schooling and eventually changed her major.
