He said the fire is reportedly out.

Right now, there's no timeline on when the fire could be extinguished. At this point, officials don't believe the injury count will increase.

Due to the refinery fire in Superior, officials advise evacuation of everyone within three miles in all directions and 10 miles south of the fire. Another Talarico said another five were treated at St. Mary's Hospital in Superior. But she said it's clear people shouldn't be breathing it in and she wonders how it will affect the water and air quality.

The explosion was reported at 10:06 a.m.at the Husky Refinery, which is the former Calumet oil refinery.

Emergency crews are on site and all workers have been accounted for.

The refinery's most recent Risk Management Plan was submitted in 2012 and states: "In the unlikely event of a catastrophic release, the refinery, working in conjunction with local emergency management staff, is well prepared to respond and mitigate adverse consequences to the community or the environment".

"We'll have more information as it becomes available", he said. There is no danger to the public or local residents at this time.

"It felt like a bomb", said Katey Geistfeld, who works at the Challenge Center at the nearby Mariner Mall. She looked around but didn't see anything - then a few moments later she saw dense black smoke rising over the trees.

Fuller said golfers were visibly shaken as they came off the course.

Roth said the fire did not spread to the huge Enbridge crude oil terminal across the street.

About 180 people are employed at Wisconsin's sole refinery, which provides the Northland with gasoline, asphalt and other specialty petroleum products. That fuel is sold throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota, so there could be supply impacts. He said the refinery is now undergoing a $30 million expansion project.

Along with the refinery, Husky took control of two asphalt terminals and two product terminals, a marine terminal, 3.6 million barrels in storage and a marketing business. This is a developing story.
