President Trump "would like to" testify before special counsel

The resignation of John Dowd, President Trump's lead attorney in the Russian Federation probe, likely represents a shift in the way the White House will approach special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, according to Judge Andrew Napolitano.

Dowd felt that it was a bad idea for Trump to sit for an in-person interview with special counsel Robert Mueller's team, while Trump pushed for his ability to do so, as the New York Times noted.

Dowd walked that back when later speaking with the Post, telling the newspaper he was only speaking for himself.

The House Intelligence Committee voted on Thursday to formally end its Russian Federation probe, after lawmakers found no evidence of collusion between Trump associates and Russian Federation. But the statement only drew unwanted headlines and stoked turmoil within the President's legal team, according to multiple sources.

Trump's latest tariffs are a response to allegations that China steals USA technologies through legal requirements slapped on American businesses who want to sell their products to China.

The departure follows Mr Trump's addition of a new lawyer to his legal team who last week acused the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Justice Department of trying to frame Mr Trump with false charges of collusion. The move on Thursday has shaken up the legal team just as Trump intensifies attacks on an inquiry he calls nothing more than a witch hunt.

The president has instead in recent days begun publicly assailing Mr. Mueller, a shift in tone that appears to be born of the president's concern that the investigation is bearing down on him more directly. "We will continue our ongoing representation of the president and our cooperation with the office of special counsel".

Two White House officials confirmed Dowd's departure, which was first reported by The New York Times.

The White House legal team, however, has reportedly split over how much to cooperate with Mueller's investigators and how much to fight them.

Mueller has been investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election, as well as other issues involving President Trump and his advisers.

It already was a delicate time in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. He later backed off the statement, saying he was not speaking for the president.

Former FBI director James Comey's firing.

The tweet led Sen. Dowd later insisted he wrote the tweet in question, not Trump. Dowd was quick to say that there had not been any decision yet about whether Trump would agree to an interview and that when that decision would be made, it would be his decision - not Trump's.
