Miley Cyrus and Sony Music sued over 'We Can't Stop'

One of the biggest names in dancehall during the 1980s, Flourgon made a name with songs like We Run Things, Bounce, Big Batty Gal and Love Mi Lover Bad.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in a federal court in NY, said the lyrics belonged "distinctly" to Flourgon with "roots in Jamaican Patois with its own unique phraseology and linguistic combinations that, when translated into English, is not grammatically correct".

In his lawsuit, the deejay argued that Miley Cyrus released the song at a pivotal moment in her career when she was transitioning from Hannah Montana from the Disney series into a more edgier and sexually charged pop star. "Things no run we", a phrase May claims to have coined.

Flourgon's track never charted in the United States, and was released four years before Miley was born.

The singer from Jamrock goes by Flourgon, and in his lawsuit he says Miley's 2013 song borrows heavily from his tune, "We Run Things".

The suit claims that Cyrus' song "owes the basis of its chart-topping popularity and its highly-lucrative success to plaintiff May's protected, unique, creative and original content".

The suit does not specify how much cash May is seeking from Cyrus, 25, but a statement from his lawyers to the News claims he wants $300 million, as well as a trial by jury and for the singer to quit profiting from "We Can't Stop".

Mind you, Flourgon's song never charted in the USA, and it came out 4 years before Miley was born, but anyway. here's his claim.
