RIP, Android Pay: Google replaces beloved mobile payment system

Google has been on a mission to bring all its payment tools under the Google Pay brand, and today that includes Android Pay. So rather than thinking about "Android Pay" for in-store purchases, PayPal for one-tap shopping online, and Venmo for P2P payments, the idea behind this amalgamation is to position Google Pay as a one-stop-shop for all your transactions. However, the company clearly plans to integrate Google Wallet's money transfer functionality into Google Pay - the blog post mentions that customers in the United States and the UK "will be able to use it to send and request money within the next few months".

As we reported last month, Google is uniting all of its different payment tools under the Google Pay brand.
