Canadians among 25 injured in Mexico ferry explosion

Mexican officials are reporting that an explosion on a ferry preparing to take tourists to Playa del Carmen left at least 25 people injured Wednesday. Footage shows the moment the ferry bursts into flames and smoke plummets from the area while people were milling about on the pier.

Local media say at the time the dock was packed with tourists getting on and leaving ferry.

According to witnesses the ferry had arrived at the dock only about three minutes before the explosion was heard. They reportedly heard passengers screaming and shouting, according to the Excelsior. The Director of Civil Protection in Playa del Carmen said two Americans and three Canadians were injured in the blast.
