Assange isn't leaving the Ecuadorian embassy anytime soon

Mr Assange's lawyers went to court last month to argue that the British warrant serves no goal because he is no longer wanted for questioning.

In a separate case, he entered the Ecuador Embassy in London years ago to avoid extradition to Sweden over accusations of sexual misconduct and rape.

The ruling at Westminster Magistrates' Court is a "blow to his fresh bid for freedom", The Daily Telegraph says. "If he has no reasonable cause he will be guilty of an offence", ruled the judge. "And that is when Mr. Assange will be able to place that before the court", the judge said. However, the British police could arrest Assange if he leaves the embassy, for breaching his bail conditions when he sought refuge there, Reuters said.

Last year, Sweden dropped its investigation into rape allegations against Assange because it was unable to get access to him.

A small group of supporters gathered outside the court before the hearing, holding a banner which read "Assange safe passage", and clutching signs saying "asylum end the witch hunt free Assange". In addition to once fearing he would be extradited by Sweden, Assange had (and probably still has) the same fear with the United States.

USA officials haven't confirmed whether a request for Assange's extradition has been made.

To some, 46-year-old Assange is a cyber hero who exposed government abuses of power.

The thousands of hacked Democratic National Committee emails WikiLeaks published during the 2016 election is widely acknowledged to have been beneficial for Trump's campaign.

Assange lawyer Jennifer Robinson said after the court session that he is willing to face British justice if he receives a guarantee that he will not be sent to the U.S.to face prosecution.

In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Assange called Pompeo's statements "very odd and bombastic".
