Bhubaneswar: Healthcare services at many government as well as private run hospitals have been adversely affected in Odisha as the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called a 12-hour nationwide strike today to protest a bill seeking to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body.
There are reports of disruption of healthcare services from various states.
Ahead of the strike, health ministry issued advisory to medical institutions to ensure that all steps were taken to provide emergency services to the masses.
While services at government hospitals will not be affected, the doctors will observe a "Black Day" and wear black arm bands as they see patients.
While the doctors at the state-run medical colleges made a decision to keep away from the Out Patient Department for an hour from 8-9 a.m. and at the state-run hospitals from 9-10 a.m., in many private hospitals the protests would continue till 6 p.m.

The new National Commission Bill includes the bridge course proposal which would enable alternative medicine practitioners to practise allopathy from medical universities which is equal to MBBS course.
