Record Number of Wreaths for Event at Andersonville National Cemetery

The weather on Saturday proved to be much nicer than previous year with sunny skies and temperatures near 40 degrees.

The national campaign began in 1992 with one person and one small group which laid holiday season wreaths on graves at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

They were remembering the fallen, the prisoners of war and the missing in action, as well as honoring those who served and who are serving in the nation's armed forces.

Each year on National Wreaths Across America Day over 1,200 locations in all 50 USA states, at sea, and overseas continue the tradition of the laying of the wreaths as a mission to Remember, Honor and Teach.

Once the participant has a wreath, they walk to a headstone of their choosing, lay the wreath down, and say the name of the fallen service member. "As a veteran myself, I think it's up to us to lead the charge and support this type of work as best as we can".
