Israel says it has destroyed Hamas assault tunnel from Gaza

Hours after the destruction of the terror tunnel that infiltrated into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, the IDF is calling the operation method that it utilized "ground breaking". It now seems that there is a possibility to discover additional terror tunnels, which challenges Hamas from restraining itself.

It was the second such operation in recent weeks, with the last tunnel destroyed on October 30.

Conricus said that "to the best of our knowledge" there were no such casualties on Sunday, though he added that the tunnels could be "death traps" for Gaza gunmen.

This is the second terror tunnel the IDF has exposed and destroyed in a month's time.

"We hold the Hamas terrorist organization responsible twice (over)".

Military spokesman Jonathan Conricus said intelligence showed the tunnel belonged to Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip. While the tunnel was not yet complete, Conricus claimed Hamas was not far from establishing an exit point.

Hamas has built a sophisticated network of terror tunnels in the Gaza Strip and running into Israel, used for storing weapons, smuggling and terrorist infiltrations into Israel. "The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) will continue to discover, expose and demolish these terror tunnels", he said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking in Paris, described the new system as a "tremendous technological innovation".

During the 2014 Gaza war, Hamas militants launched surprise attacks from tunnels that crossed under Israel's security fence and into Israel.
