United Kingdom police questioning two men over Oxford Circus panic

The incident came at dusk on Friday as shoppers crammed the festively lit shopping strip and Oxford Circus tube station, leaving several people injured, with nine needing hospital attention, one with leg injuries.

Unconfirmed reports of shots being fired have circulated and police urged people to avoid the area. "Given the nature of the info received we responded as if the incident was terrorism, including the deployment of armed officers".

Oxford Circus station is in the heart of London's shopping district, which is particularly busy because of stores offering Black Friday discounts.

London's Metropolitan Police said there was no evidence of shots fired or casualties at the Oxford Circus tube station. The British police have expressed "tremendous gratitude" that people have understood and reassured them that there is no danger, the area is searched and the barriers are lifted.

Social media users have reported being evacuated from the store and the doors being locked.
