Trump avoids gun control talk in Las Vegas visit

The shooting was reportedly carried out on October 1 by 64-year-old retiree Stephen Paddock, who opened fire on a large outdoor country music festival from the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel.

Paddock transferred $100,000 to the Philippines in the days before the shooting, a US official briefed by law enforcement but not authorized to speak publicly because of the continuing investigation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The Las Vegas gunman's girlfriend is being quizzed by police as they attempt to find out why a man with no record of violence or crime would kill 59 people and leave 527 others injured after opening fire on a concert crowd from a high-rise hotel. Investigators found a computer and 23 guns in Paddock's hotel room.

Danley says Paddock found her a cheap ticket to the Philippines and wanted her to take a trip home to see relatives.

Although the Federal Bureau of Investigation wants to talk to her, Marilou Danley, 62, is not in custody - she is classified as a "person of interest" to investigators - and is free to go wherever she wants, U.S. media reported.

Danley arrived back in the US from her native country - the Philippines - Tuesday night.

As the indiscriminate killings continued, police said, cameras were positioned inside and outside Paddock's hotel suite and in the door's peep hole.

While Danley was away, Paddock wired $100,000 to an account in the Philippines, according to senior law enforcement officials.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters Wednesday just after 9 a.m. local time that Danley would be questioned in the next half hour at the FBI's Los Angeles field office.

Backed Forces in Syria Say Russians Attacked Their Position

In formal remarks as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Trump said he was honored to be "in the company of heroes".

"He's going to salute the first responders and Americans who helped as he should", he said. Philippines immigration bureau spokeswoman Antonette Mangrobang said authorities there had been working with United States officials.

The room goes for $590 but was given to Paddock for free because he was a good customer who wagered tens of thousands of dollars during each visit, the person said.

Reports also emerged on Thursday that Paddock, a gambling and cruise enthusiast, may have looked into carrying out an attack in Chicago or Boston.

Her lawyer, Matt Lombard, said Danley was "fully cooperating" with the investigation.

One sister tearfully said: "I know that she don't know anything".

He's accused of fatally shooting 58 people and wounding over 500 more in what's being called the worst mass shooting in USA history.

President Donald Trump traveled to Las Vegas, where he met privately with shooting victims and their families and told the city that the nation stands with them to share in their grief. Paddock killed himself in the 32nd floor hotel room he used as a vantage point to rain bullets down on people attending the Route 91 Harvest festival.

Trump, touring a hospital in Las Vegas, told reporters Paddock was "very demented". "I think he will strengthen America and remind us to keep rowing our boat in one direction".
