Terror attack in Edmonton

A Somali refugee has been charged with five counts of attempted murder after a police officer was stabbed and four pedestrians run over in Edmonton, Canada on Sunday.

The incident in Edmonton shows that terrorists can strike anywhere and use improvised weapons to carry out #terror attacks, injure innocent people and terrorize the masses.

Knecht said an Islamic State group flag was found in the vehicle that hit the officer, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called it a terror attack. Michael Chernyk was hit by a white Chevrolet Malibu while conducting traffic control and then the driver of the vehicle got out and stabbed him several times before fleeing the scene.

Based on the actions and the evidence at the scene, the incidents were being investigated as "acts of terrorism", police said.

The injured police officer was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries but the condition of those hit by the vehicle has not been released. This led to a police pursuit in which four pedestrians were injured before the suspect was apprehended when the truck flipped on its side.

"We think this is an individual who acted alone, although the investigation is in its very beginning", said the chief of police.

It was only a matter of time that a van driver deliberately put his auto on pedestrians.

Trump authorizes waiver to loosen shipping regulations for Puerto Rico
Even if the waiver helps speed cargo to the island, Puerto Rico is still struggling to move supplies around. That decision came only after days of public pressure from lawmakers - both Republicans and Democrats.

Local media named the attacker as 30-year-old Abdulahi Hasan Sharif as authorities confirmed he was a Somalian national who had applied for asylum and was known to the security services following a complaint in 2015.

Degrand said an investigation was launched and RCMP interviewed the suspect, among other people. The Edmonton Journal reports that an ISIS flag was found in the Chevy Malibu used within the first attack.

The chase concluded with the U Haul truck flipping over on Jasper Avenue. The impact sent the officer "flying 15 feet through the air", according to a Police statement.

Just before midnight the same evening, a U-Haul truck was pulled over at a checkstop location on Wayne Gretzky Drive and 112 Ave.

Saturday was military appreciation day at the football game between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said there is no place for violent extremism in Canada.
