DirecTV reportedly offering refund on Sunday Ticket due to protests

DirecTV is offering refunds on their Sunday Ticket NFL package to those snowflakes so offended by protests during the national anthem that they can't bear to watch the game (or pay for it in this case).

An AT&T spokesman declined to confirm the change to other outlets. Some service representatives said no refunds would be given, while one said only customers with certain packages would get the refund.

Customer service representatives are reportedly making exceptions this season because of the backlash from a portion of the population over anthem protests from the majority of teams this week.

Sunday Ticket earns $1.5 billion a year in licensing revenue, the Journal said.

The TV football package costs nearly $300 a season, though AT&T offers various promotions and monthly pricing options.

But DirecTV parent company AT&T chose to offer refunds because of the sensitive nature of the issue surrounding player protests during the national anthem, ESPN's Darren Rovell reports.

"I honestly didn't think I'd get a refund", Hoffman told WSJ.

This past weekend, the protests and "demonstrations of unity" exploded in number after the president last week called for National Football League owners to fire any "son of a bitch" that kneeled during the anthem. AT&T is the parent company of DirecTV.

The Wall Street Journal also spoke with some DirecTV subscribers who indicated the same.

President Donald Trump fanned the flames of the debate during a speech at a rally in Alabama supporting Luther Strange's primary campaign. In fact, many players have said that they will continue protesting, so this may be a sign of things to come.

However, the anthem protests, which were begun last season by former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, have proved to be tremendously unpopular with some fans. On Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys all took a knee, including team owner Jerry Jones.
