Doctor found to help Charlie leave hospital

Parents of a terminally ill British baby have found a doctor willing to care to for their son, away from hospital.

Doctors at Great Ormond Street in London maintained that it was kinder for the Charlie's life support to be switched off.

Justice Francis also ruled that if Charlie moves to a hospice, details such as which hospice he had been transferred to and the exact timing of his death will not be made public.

He accused London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Charlie is being treated, of putting obstacles in the way.

He said on Wednesday that the time had come for a decision to be made.

The staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital stepped forward as their bosses said the baby must be sent to a hospice by tomorrow. Nurses from the hospital nonetheless have volunteered to care for him in his final hours.

The child suffers from permanent brain damage and can not breathe on his own.

The judge, Mr Justice Francis gave the parents until Thursday to find a team that could support Charlie for the days they are looking to spend with him at a hospice.

The hospital said that experimental therapy "could have been an opportunity for Charlie and it will be an opportunity for all the patients with the same or a similar rare disease". Yates requested that Gard be released from the hospital into hospice care for a week before being taken off life support.

The hospital also said that Charlie's ventilator would not fit through the door of his parents' west London home, and that the property's stairs and corners would make it hard to negotiate equipment through and would likely require Charlie to be taken off the ventilator to get inside.

Bambino Gesu hospital had offered to treat the 11-month-old while his parents were trying to persuade British courts to tell a London hospital to release the boy for treatment in the United States.

In May, the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling, and judges for the European Court of Human Rights declined to intervene in June.

He issued an order barring publication of the name of the hospice and the date when Charlie is taken there.

But Charlie's godfather, James Evers, last night expressed anger at what he called GOSH's "arduous" conditions, such as having one of their intensive care specialists at Charlie's side throughout.

"We have decided it's no longer in Charlie's interest to have treatment". He has brain damage and is unable to breathe unaided. They said they accept that his condition has deteriorated to the point where the experimental treatment would not work.
