Sony's VENOM Movie Will Star Tom Hardy

Hardy previously played the villain Bane in "Dark Knight Rises", but now switches from DC Comics to Marvel with this casting.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Sony had chose to move ahead with a solo franchise for the fan-favourite Spider-Man villain, Venom.

The Venom movie will be directed by Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer.

Confirming Hardy as the star of the upcoming Venom film is big news and it will likely spark a lot of speculation about how well (or how poorly) Hardy may do in the role. In celebration of the news, Sony released a photo of Hardy donning a Venom shirt. The Venom movie will take on numerous characteristics of how the spin-off was originally conceived at Sony back when it would have dovetailed into Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man films. His involvement definitely makes Venom feel like more a proper event and not something Sony is rushing into production because everyone is ready to like Spider-Man again. The character derives his powers - and his villainous streak - from a living, symbiotic alien that takes the form of a black costume, imbuing its host with abilities similar to Spider-Man's.

They had a two-goalie system with Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi each of the last two seasons, and missed the playoffs this year. SHARKS: San Jose signed forwards Melker Karlsson and Joonas Donskoi to new contracts before they become restricted free agents.

We're not saying Tobey Maguire will show up with his "Spider-Man 3" dance moves to fight Venom.

Since its inception in 1988, Venom has been one of "Spider-Man's" most popular characters, making it a top priority for the studio to get a movie off the ground.

With Marvel now handling Spidey himself, Sony is free to create a separate universe using the secondary characters they also own the rights to. Are we going to see Spider-Man at all? It turns out the movie has found its star and his name is Tom Hardy. The script was written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2).
