Officer who shot Tamir Rice is fired in unrelated matter

A white police officer who fatally shot a 12-year-old black boy in Cleveland, Ohio, in November 2014 has been sacked for lying on his cadet application.

Timothy Loehmann, the former Cleveland Police Department officer who shot Rice, was found to have lied on his application to the department, according to Cleveland Director of Public Safety Michael McGrath, leading to his termination, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

"Garmback should have been fired also for pulling up so close to Tamir to create the murder of Tamir", she said. Loomis says officers haven't been fired before for that reason. Loehmann quickly exited the squad vehicle and, within three seconds, shot at Rice.

"This has been tough on our entire community, and definitely on the Rice family", Cleveland's chief of police, Calvin Williams, said at the news conference on Tuesday.

Stable gas prices expected to boost Memorial Day road trips
Association analysts say the increase in gasoline prices is likely the result of rising demand and crude oil prices. About 34.6 million Americans will take a road trip, and 689,692 Tennesseans will take a road trip.

Sea lion drags shocked girl into water by her dress
The little girl then turned her back to the water as she sat on a wooden ledge, possibly to take a photo. Trites hopes the video of the encounter teaches others to not feed wild animals like sea lions.

Frank Garmback, the officer with Loehmann on that day, will start his 10-day suspension on Wednesday. Video of the shooting shows the patrol vehicle skidding to a stop just feet from the boy.

The shooting sparked outrage and became one of many acts of police terror that galvanized a movement for Black lives in the USA against police brutality and murder. The officers weren't charged criminally, but Tamir's mother settled a federal civil rights lawsuit with the city for $6 million.

A county prosecutor announced in December 2015 that Loehmann and Garmback wouldn't be indicted after telling a grand jury there wasn't evidence to support criminal charges. "They did not do anything outside of our policy, outside of our training, and this is a politically motivated witch hunt".

"We are in fear the other shoe is going to drop due to additional accountability failures by the City of Cleveland". Williams said the department now makes sure to read through all applicants' personnel files and employment history. In March, a dispatcher who did not tell officers that the 9-1-1 caller said Rice's gun was probably fake and that Rice was a child was suspended without pay for eight days. On Tuesday, it was announced that the rookie cop who killed him, Timothy Loehmann, has been fired from the Cleveland Division of Police following the conclusion of an investigation into the shooting.
