Donald Trump willing to 'make peace' with Pyongyang

Chinese President Xi Jinping told a South Korean envoy on Friday he was willing to put relations back on a "normal track" amid tensions over a United States anti-missile system deployed on the Korean peninsula.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has campaigned on a more moderate approach toward North Korea but has said it must change its attitude to arms development before dialogue is possible.

The United States wants North Korea to trust its promise of no hostility and conduct no more nuclear or missile tests before Washington can consider opening talks with the country, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was quoted as saying Thursday.

Over the weekend, North Korean officials said they're open to talks under the right circumstances, but USA officials say that missile launches like this one shatter the prospect of dialogue at least any time soon.

In its previous missile launch at the end of April, North Korea's regime suffered a second failure in a row with its latest ballistic missile test attempt amid continuing tensions with the United States and South Korea.

Wang expounded on China's position on the deployment of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system, urging the ROK to correctly deal with China's major and reasonable concern.

Moon has sent envoys to the United States, China, Japan and the European Union this week in what the government has called "pre-emptive diplomacy".
