AT&T workers start 3-day strike in contract impasse

AT&T workers went on strike Friday in Philadelphia and other cities in Pennsylvania to protest the company's failure to negotiate in good faith a new contract.
Union officials say there are 50-60 CWA members at AT&T stores in Maine. For store workers, sales commissions are also a hot issue. Our message is clear: fair contract or strike.
The strike comes at a hard time for AT&T's wireless business, which has faced intense pressure since the start of the year from aggressive competitors and apathetic customers.
The CWA was involved in a 45-day strike past year by 40,000 Verizon wireline workers that ended in June. AT&Tsaid the stoppage is slated to end at midnight Sunday.
CWA Local 2006 represents local communications workers with AT&T.
Giga added that the strike involves less than 14 percent of AT&T's employees.
"This is the largest walkout in the US since Verizon workers went on strike a year ago".
