Texas House Debates 'Sanctuary Cities' Bill

House representatives will debate the legislation Wednesday after Texas senators overwhelmingly passed it in February.

Neave's efforts come amid a federal crackdown on sanctuary cities, with the Justice Department contacting nine cities to warn that they will lose federal funding if they refuse to comply with immigration enforcement.

Fort Worth Republican Charlie Geren, the bill's sponsor, even weighed in on Neave's protest, telling the Austin American-Statesman that he "didn't get to be a fat white boy by not eating".

"I wanted to sacrifice something for others who don't have a voice, and i feel a big responsibility to be that voice here and to fight tooth and nail to defeat this awful legislation", State rep. Victoria Neave, (D) Dallas. "My fear is that it will pass, but I am fasting and praying and hoping the hearts of other lawmakers will be soften to vote against this bill as well". "Their second grade students are afraid of what is going to happen to them if their parents are deported".

But Neave told local media she's anxious the legislation will make immigrants afraid to report crimes or testify in court.

India to get normal monsoon: IMD
Stating that one should not think monsoon in isolation, he said: "You have to think monsoon with market together". This means the state, which is reeling under its worst drought so far, can not wish it away even during monsoon.

"We protect victims and witnesses of crime in Senate Bill 4 to make sure no one is hindered from reporting crime", he added.

Since announcing her hunger strike, Neave has been the target of many online attacks.

Rep. Neave told the Dallas Morning News that fear is already heightened in immigrant communities, regardless of their immigration status, with more than 1,000 residents recently packing a high school cafeteria for an immigration forum.

"I feel fine. I feel healthy, and I'm going to pray", said Neave. These critics of the bill argue that it will create feelings of fear among immigrants, lead to fewer violent crimes being reported (because of fear of deportation) and increase instances of racial profiling. "To me, this is personal and it's spiritual".
