Israeli attack on Syria military camp kills three

Two missiles were fired at 06.45 p.m. when government forces were repulsing Al-Qaeda's attacks in the vicinity of the city of Quneitra.

The Sunday attack by the IDF followed a strike on Friday against pro-Assad militants in the Syrian Golan Heights.

A Syrian military source told the official SANA news agency that the Israeli aggression came after an attempt by extremists to infiltrate military positions in Quneitra was foiled and the assailants suffered heavy losses.

In the past, the Syrian army has confiscated Israeli-made arms and military equipment from extremists fighting the government forces.

However, Israel is not going to tolerate any spillover into its territory of the Syrian civil war.

Late Friday afternoon, a mortar landed on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights, a short time afterward, two more hit Israel.

Last month, the Israeli army said in a statement its jets had struck positions inside Syrian territory.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group confirmed the early Sunday attack but had no further details.

The IDF did not officially comment on the reports, but Israeli defense officials stated off the record that the reports were inaccurate. In mid-March, the Israeli air force attacked several targets across the border. The Syrian regime, for its part, said its air defenses had downed one of the Israeli jets that entered its airspace.

Syria's instability since the civil war has been a national security concern for Israel.
